Estimate your lease-end purchase price: residual value plus the disposition fee and any tax.

How the lease buyout is calculated
Your lease-end buyout is set in the contract as the residual value (a percentage of MSRP) plus the disposition fee, plus any tax on that amount. Enter the residual percentage from your lease-end statement and the original price to see the dollar figure you would pay to keep the car.
Is buying out worth it?
A buyout makes sense when the contract residual is below the car’s real market value, or when you simply want to keep a car you like. Compare the buyout price to similar used cars for sale before you commit.
What to compare it against
Before you exercise the buyout, check the contract residual against the price of comparable cars for sale in your area. If the market price is higher than your buyout, buying can be a genuine bargain; if it is lower, you may be better off returning the car and shopping the used market. Remember to add sales tax, plus any registration and title fees, to the buyout number so your comparison reflects the true out-the-door cost of keeping the vehicle.
