How the lease payment is calculated
Monthly lease payment = (net capitalized cost − residual value) ÷ lease term + (net capitalized cost + residual value) × money factor. The money factor is the lease equivalent of an interest rate; multiply it by 2,400 to approximate the APR. Residual value is what the car is worth at lease end, expressed as a percentage of MSRP.
Lease vs buy: which wins?
Leasing keeps monthly payments lower and avoids resale risk, while buying builds equity. The calculator compares total out-of-pocket over your holding period so you can see which is cheaper for your situation. Enter your vehicle price, down payment, money factor and residual percentage, then read the estimated monthly payment and total lease cost instantly.
FAQ
What is a money factor?
The money factor is the lease equivalent of an interest rate. Multiply it by 2,400 to estimate the APR. For example, a money factor of 0.00250 is about 6.00% APR.
What is residual value?
Residual value is the car’s estimated worth at lease end, shown as a percentage of MSRP. A higher residual means a lower monthly payment, because you are only financing the depreciation.
Is leasing cheaper than buying?
It depends on how long you keep the car and on current interest rates. This calculator compares total out-of-pocket, so you can decide what fits your situation.
Are these numbers a real quote?
